SHORT BIO

Vernon Wood has over 30 years’ experience in education, many years of which were as a principal, including being head of a large government high school and of Bishops. When one thinks that a school is a space where literally hundreds of people converge daily and most are practicing to be adults, it is inevitable that conflicts will arise and so Vernon has extensive experience in managing difficult situations amongst adolescents, between professional staff and with parents. He has investigated and resolved literally hundreds of issues and has an extensive understanding of how schools work. If your child finds themselves in trouble at school then Vernon is definitely the person to approach, whether to mediate or simply advise. He has attended many disciplinary hearings, both for staff and learners, and so has deep insight into the processes and possible solutions. The modern school is also a significant business, and so Vernon has extensive experience in HR issues, finance, family conflict, dispute resolution and coaching. He brings all of this experience to any mediation in which he is involved. He also dabbles in property, hence his interest therein. Mediation is an art that comes reasonably naturally to an educator, as it is something they do daily and so formally qualifying as a mediator through the UCT/MiM programme was a natural progression for Vernon as he now uses his skills formally in commercial, education and government environments to resolve issues cost effectively without the need for litigation.
